For as long as anyone can remember, textbooks have gone hand in hand with teaching inside of the classroom. The best written textbooks are a valuable source of information. The writing might seem to come across as a little dry and uninspired, but all of the valuable information which will pop up on homework assignments and exams are right in the textbook.

The textbook is there for the teacher to use as they wish. In many instances, the textbook is an educational tool. Some teachers just stick by the book, while others rather tend to use the textbook as a base guideline, and then put their own spin on teaching the class. The true question is precisely how much should a teacher rely on the textbook when they teach the class?

Teachers Can Be Heroes Too

When a child is asked who their hero is, obviously there are many different answers that can be made. For some, it is their parents and really should a child have their parents their hero, then that is a good sign. For other children, it is some celebrity or larger than life sports hero. Perhaps for some we tap into the realm of fiction for a character that has inspired of.

However, what about a teacher?

Shouldn't teachers be a positive influence in the life of many children? Shouldn't teachers be individuals that will be a positive and prominent influence in the lives of many children?

Why Students Do Not Ask Questions

When a student is struggling in school, generally speaking it is a good idea for them to go up to the teacher and ask questions. In theory, while the teacher should not do the work for them, they can give them valuable insight. The role of the teacher is to steer the student in the right direction and make sure students understand the material. After all isn't it a bad reflection on the teacher if the students they teach do not understand the source material?

It does seem simple for a student to ask a question to clarify something that they do not properly understand. Yet for some reason some students do avoid their teachers and do not feel they are approachable. It causes their education to suffer. Importance of Organization and Time Management for Students

One of the areas that students fall short in is organization. Organization and time management, too concepts that most students are going to fail a lot of the time from. Planning is something many of us can excel at a bit better. To plan means that you remain organized and on task. To remain organize and on task, we need to prioritize. By prioritizing, we are going to eliminate all matter of distractions we have right out there.

One could see how easily many students would have issues. In the day and age we live it, it is more than easy to get distracted. Social media such as Facebook, video games, cell phones, and wanting to have fun, more than remain on task can really divert students off of the path. Entertainment is a necessary aspect to keep the sanity of the person. However, there is a time and a place for entertainment while there is a time and a place for education.

So how does one remain organized? Organization is not a difficult concept. Yet it is one where many just fall short from. Failure to organize becomes more of a roadblock for success, especially when you get into higher levels of education. It is important at any level but students fail to learn to organize and manage their time, by the time they get to college, students will struggle.

Imagine that you were taking a class in school. You had invested weeks and weeks right into studying and trying to pass the subject. Perhaps it is a subject that you were struggling with, where you were always right on the borderline of passing and failing. When all of the grades in, where the final exam is in, one of your gravest horrors have come true. You have failed the subject.

Perhaps you don't have to imagine it. Perhaps you have failed a subject in school and have to retake the class. So you are wondering what to do next.

There are few things more demeaning for someone seeking an education than to fail a subject and have to take it over again. Especially when you did work hard and you honestly tried. You just failed right underneath the borderline. It is far worse to fall on your face after nearly missing the mark then missing the mark by ten miles and falling on your face.

Student Loan Debt Woes

With each passing year, debt has been a concern for many in the country. The student loan debt is the top of the list, with the only classification of debt that may be slightly higher being credit card debt. Each and every year, students take out loans to get higher education. Many of those loans get unpaid. In a perfect world, students would be able to translate their education into a solid job that would be able to allow them to pay off all of their obligations.

The world we live in and most importantly, the economy, is far from perfect.

A four year education, all paid by loans, will lead to students racking up a mass amount of debt just on the interest alone. Students seem unable or unwilling to truthfully look into what they are getting themselves into when they decide to take out a loan to pay for your education. Many have said that the past couple of generations have a distinct lack of responsibility and the mass student loans would be a contributing factor to this.

As a result, students to go to school, but they are unwilling to think of what may happen in the future. A loan seems like a dream, their expenses, their books, and pretty much everything is paid for, all taken care of, as they are focusing on their studies.

What Teachers Do During the Summer

The summer holidays are either here or about to come for many students in the United States. That happy time of vacation and joy for many children around the country. The utter dismay for parents, when they realize that they cannot unload their children on the school for about eight hours. It is a magical time of year, one that is far less in past years, as summer vacation continues to shrink with each passing year.

What about the teachers? What is their summer like?

I'm sure many of us are not alone with the fact that it was hard for us to really imagine our teachers with any kind of life other than being teachers. I know when I was a youngster, it was hard to reconcile the fact that my teacher could have existed outside of the school walls. The fact that they had families, friends, even children of their own. Many us thought that teachers were just powered down and put into storage for the summer. It might seem absurd right now to think such a thing.

Yet, in reality, teachers are not too much different from the students. I'm sure they are embracing summer vacation like the rest of us.

Just put yourself in the shoes of a teacher, even if you love your job, dealing with children nine and a half months out of the year, five days a week, can really be something that can wear you down. Dealing with a child can be problematic. Throw many children around, with all of the drama, all of the bickering, and just every point that goes along with the chaos in the classroom.

That is just the problem with the lower levels of education. High school is even worse and college, well just because the students are adult, doesn't mean that they are one hundred percent mature.

Teachers look forward to their summer vacation, perhaps in a slightly different way. It is a break from all of the insanity. Of course, when summer vacation nears its end, they have to worry about what they are going to do when school starts again. They worry about what the new crop of students will be like, administration meddling, government meddling, and if they can adequately teach children due to the budget that the school has been dealt with.

Not to mention that there are teachers who question what they are doing to begin with. Teachers come in all forms. The type who actually are trying to make the difference in the youth of today. And then there are those teachers who are just out for a paycheck.

The moment that they find another job, they are gone. So those teachers spend their minutes of summer, wondering if this is the year where they can leave it all behind. Yet, even the most qualified teachers find themselves strained and pushed to the limit.

Students dread going back to the old grind after the summers but teachers do in a way as well. They just have to maintain an attitude of professionalism and just get right back on ahead of their students. They cannot just stumble and bumble around like students do in the first few weeks. Teachers are the ones that have to right the ship.

Teachers will sit back and enjoy the moment of being on break from the insanity of school for a moment. Much like students, as the weeks pass, they will realize that summer vacation does not last forever. So they scramble to get ready, to psyche themselves up for school.

It is amazing how much alike students and teachers are. The concerns will be different, but the attitude can have some similarities with summer vacation and the inevitable returning for another year.

Cheating on School Exams

Millions of students take exams each and every year in the school system. A fraction of those students decide that the best thing to do would be to cheat as they take those exams. There methods are varying and beyond the scope of this article. Yet a creative mind will be able to think of some good methods to attempt to get an individual a leg up. Cheating is something that is not uncommon in school and thus it becomes a problem.

Why do students decide to cheat? The reasons for this are rather many. Obviously laziness may be one that is the most common. It is the most often cited, the fact which students just do not feel the need to study. Therefore, they decide to find shortcuts in their examinations and their studies.

Another reason is that the subject is something that they do not excel in. There is a certain amount of shame that many students have(as wrong as it is), asking for help on their studies. Call it being afraid of being looked down upon for being not as intelligent or being rather stubborn. Regardless, they won't ask for the help and they think that something will click when it comes to exams. Naturally it does not.

Those type of students are those who get pressured into getting good grades. The pressure parents put on their children to excel can delve right into the area of insanity sometimes. The parents do mean rather well more often than not. However, pressuring your children can lead to very negative consequences, as they may decide to take drastic actions to pass the exam.

Another reason is just because they can. A very unfortunate side effect is when other people cheat in their exams, a seed of the idea is planted right in the head of a student. Their education is something that can be done by not being smarter, by not studying, but by being rather sneaky and devious. It is not about understanding the material, rather it is because of manipulating the circumstances in a favor manner.

On a related note, there is just some kind of rush that many people feel. Half of the reason why people do commit crimes out in the world, is because of the adrenaline that they feel. In many ways, it is a vice, just like another other addiction. A reasonable mind would state that addiction would take center stage right between the school yards.

In the end, students cheat on their exams. While it would be easy to say that you should not cheat because it is wrong, it is a rather simplistic way of looking at cheating on examinations. Yes, it would be doing yourself a disservice, but who is to say that the person that you might be cheating off of is going to have all of the right answers.

If one does copy answers, you never know if those answers are right. Cheating has been circumvented in many ways, by different exams given to different students. Sometimes as many as four or five exams. Where only half of the class in alternate desks take the exams one day while the other half reads in silence. Where the teacher purposely leaves an exam guide with the incorrect answers where those who wish to cheat out.

Any number of ways are utilized by school administrations to circumvent cheating by students. Yet, in the end, there is still an extremely long way to go before that particular aspect of education is put to bed.

There is no foolproof method to stop cheating, as some students who wish to do it are far from fools. If only they had put half as much time in studying, then this problem would not have been vast.

Is Online Education For You

Online education is on the rise, with many students deciding to sign up for online courses, rather than going onsite to a traditional college. Whether it be straight out of high school or just revisiting previous educational opportunities that were passed over, going to school over the Internet has become a very attractive option. But is it for you?

Is getting an education online for everyone?

One thing that you should really know right off the bat is that online classes are not too much unlike the traditional forms of college. For the student, some schools offer some great options, with many classes and a good reputation. For other schools, not so much, as the education and options are lacking. And it really does depend on what field you are going to. Research is the number one thing for a student to learn and they can start sharpening their research skills by finding a school that offers an education that suits their needs.

You can make your own schedule, which given the often breakneck pace in life, that might be a good thing. But that can also be a double edged sword in many ways. If you are not good at all at time management, then you will find yourself with many of the same headaches. The point that if a student is not good at time management, they will struggle and fail in their attempts to get an online education.

On the other hand, you don't have to brave the weather to drive to school and also you tend to save some money on living at a campus, if that is the direction that you would want to go. A student who goes home can do so at any time of the day or not, logging onto the class. You can go to school in your underpants or less and no one would need to know.

If you care about the face to face interaction with your class mates, then a student might find online education not for them. Also going to school online means that getting in touch with your instructor for any inquiries might be a bit of a touch and go proposition. Some teachers are extremely accessible. Other teams, not so much.

And the biggest problem with acquiring your education online is that you are at the mercy of technology. Ask anyone, the Internet never goes down, your computer never stops working at a convenient time, but rather at the worst possible time. That will be one of the oldest lessons that need to be learned.

Why Homework is Assigned on the Weekends

Did you get your homework done this weekend?

This is a question that many teachers ask of students when they return on Monday Morning as they resume their education after a weekend off. Talk about a real conversation killer, as while many students dutifully have completed their homework, others have neglected to do it.

Teachers ask then why and there is no real adequate response. It was just that the work was not completed for any number of reasons. Because without the threat of school the next day, any thoughts of education and homework are out of sight and out of mind.

Why teachers feel the need to assign homework over the weekend

If you are a student reading this, you are going to answer this question with something like to make us miserable or something along those lines. Which there are all sorts of teachers, as you will find out during your education. And some of them are rather not going to be the most pleasant of people out there. They delight in making their students squirm as they assign that weekend homework.

Yet for many teachers, their hands are mostly tied. They are required to assign a certain amount of homework assigns to complete the education mandates brought down by administrators. Of course, students care nothing for politics what goes on behind the scenes. Because the student life has its own unique set of politics.

Also teachers feel the need to see how serious their students are about their education. The homework is given out, in the middle all of the groans given by frustrated students. And it kind of does become problematic when you are at a high school level when the class load gets much higher and six different teachers are unlikely to coordinate to make sure they don't make their students suffer.

Homework is just something that is a part of the school week and sadly the weekend. Just a part of getting an education boys and girls. The teachers that assigned it hated it just as much as you did. Yeah I know, its hard to imagine your teachers as children, but work with me here. It is a test  of your ability as a student. And how serious you are. Granted holes gets hot through that theory when people do honestly forget but many who abstain from doing their homework may not do so to begin with.

Homework, a part of education, but one that can be frustrating. But just imagine the frustration of the teachers as they grade what passes for effort.

How Can We Deal with Bullying

In recent years, bullying has been something that has gotten a bit more press, with higher awareness than what has happened in years past. It is most certainly not something new. Bullying has occurred for years and years, nearly as much of a part of the education process as school bells and textbooks. With that fact in mind, the real facts about bullying coming to light have been most horrifying. The self esteem issues and the potential psychological ramifications have been studied. Cyber bullying has also been something that has gone on, as bullies have taken their tormenting behind the traditional fields of education.

How to deal with bullying?

Why do bullies do what they do? The reasons for bullying are many and quite horrifying. Sometimes it stems for an abusive home life. Violence often is timed a learned behavior and bullies lash out at what they perceive to be the weakest targets to try and bolster their own often times faulty self esteem.

Yet other times, it just something that is perceived as harmless that goes too far. No matter how much we are taught, words do hurt and actions can sting. Our education might seem like something that can be a bright and joyous place. But when it gets tainted by the harmful specter of bullying, then it becomes less than ideal.

For years, bullies have just been mostly accepted as part and parcel for school, unless things got too much out of control. Yet in many ways, those who educate are getting an education on what bullying will lead to. And the education is something that makes us wonder if the problem has gotten far too much out of hand. Have people just allowed bullies to run wild, under some mythical rules of the school yard?

There are three groups of children it does seem. Those who are the instigators, those who are the victims, and those who just sit back and watch bullying occur. The real harsh part of this bullying education is that the victims will later become the instigators. They will become the bullies.

And the harshest truth of all is that students are not the only problem. Rather there are some teachers who interact with their pupils in a way, with demeaning comments, that had it been peer to peer, it would be considered to be the act of bullies. The blanket of education and being a teacher does not disqualify one from partaking in bullying. Far from it. Bullies come in far too many forms. And bullying has been going on far than we care to remember, from around many corners.

The education for this pressing issue will continue. There is awareness, people trying to spread the word about the ramifications of those who bully. Sadly, it is slow going and there are many who would be inclined to just sit back. It seems like there is much education for all before its all said and done. We cannot allow bullies to thrive. Spread awareness, as harmless behavior can leave to something awful. People need to know that this bullying behavior is wrong.
